Sound Baths & Meditation: Are they the same thing?
An Interview with Shawn J. Moore
Y’all, I am so thrilled to share today’s episode with you! Today, I am offering a conversation I recorded with my friend and colleague, Shawn J. Moore about sound meditation.
Sound baths. Sound healing. Sound therapy. Sound meditation. There has been a lot of talk about this type of experience over the last few years, and I thought you might enjoy hearing from an actual practitioner about this style of meditation: what it is, why it works, and more. Shawn was kind enough to record a special sound bath experience just for us so be sure to set aside time at the end of this practice!
Shawn is the Director of Student Leadership at Morehouse College, a Registered Yoga Teacher, sound practitioner, meditation teacher, graphic designer, and Gallup-certified Strengths coach. Shawn is going to talk to us about his own journey to meditation starting in high school {anyone else remember sitting in Barnes & Noble reading ALL the books??}. In 2019, he decided to take his refuge vow (a formal commitment to the Buddhist Path) in the Shambhala lineage.
Today, he integrates meditation and mindfulness as a tool for his own creative resilience, personal power, and healing, with the privilege of sharing these nurturing tools with his community.
As I mention in the episode, Shawn and I share a love of books, especially in the meditation/psychology/self-help section, so Shawn was nice enough to offer up his favorite books for those of you who might be interested:
Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
Comfortable with Uncertainty by Pema Chodron
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Turning the Mind Into An Ally by Sakyong Mipham
The Mysticism of Sound and Music by Hazrat Inayat Khan
